Historical Reenactments and Story Telling
Make Mukilteo a Destination City
Mukilteo Historical Society (MHS) volunteers are developing a program of historical reenactments and story telling for presentation throughout the
2008 lighthouse season. Mukilteo founders, trading post workers, Japanese American sawmill workers, educators, a powder mill employee, an early
business entrepreneur and more will celebrate diverse cultures and earlier times in the Mukilteo area.
Beginning with the April opening weekend at the Mukilteo Light Station grounds, MHS members and other Snohomish County community members
will provide entertaining and educational glimpses into Snohomish County history.
The first presentations will occur between 1:00 P.M. and 3:30 P.M. on Saturday, April 5th and on Sunday, April 6th.
Photos, diagrams, and early 20th century artifacts will be on display in tents outside the lighthouse. All the fun reenactment activities will
occur on the light station grounds come rain or shine. Lighthouse tours, exhibits, and shopping opportunities occur inside the tower, in the
former light keepers' residence, and inside another special exhibit building.
Light refreshments will be provided on opening day.
In May, MHS volunteers are presenting an historical reenactment in the Mukilteo Pioneer Cemetery located at 513 Webster St.
The event occurs on May 31st, the Saturday after Memorial Day. The time is between 1:00 P.M. and 3:30 P.M.
Ellen Koch, MHS past president, will greet visitors at the cemetery gate as Alice Pallas Brooks. Long ago Alice played and pruned vegetation in her
neighborhood cemetery that has a beautiful view overlooking Possession Sound. Now she will alert pioneers buried there beginning in the 1880s through
1919 to come alive to tell their stories.
Later this season, MHS volunteers and Snohomish County participants will take the reenactment and story telling program on the road during
the Mukilteo Art Guild's summer walks, at the Wednesday Market at Rosehill Community Center, in the September 6, 2008 Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival
parade, and other venues yet to be decided.
Help make those reenactments and story telling events happen.
Imagine reliving the personal histories and memories of Mukilteo pioneers such as an early schoolteacher, a J. D. Fowler founder family member,
the first Mukilteo post office mistress, a Japanese-American and more.
Current volunteers want this activity to be fun and to be flexible. Help now!
