Volunteers are always needed to meet the many needs of each of the committees listed below. Interested members are encouraged to reach out to listed committee contacts. New volunteers who are not already members are encouraged become a member. Training is provided for all new volunteers.
Volunteer Opportunities
There are many volunteer opportunities from a one-time activity to in-depth projects such as a tour guide in the lighthouse tower, a sales person in the nautical themed gift shop, working in the gardens, or researching an aspect of our history.
Volunteer Duties
Cash register operation, shelf maintenance, and helping visitors find merchandise.

Volunteer Duties
Docents oversee lighthouse access and viewing. Downstairs docent monitors number and ages of persons entering tower. Docent in tower keeps visitors moving and makes sure light is not touched. May answer visitor questions about exhibits and Light Station operations.

Volunteer Duties
Maintain flower beds on Light Station grounds. All flower beds on grounds are maintained exclusively by volunteers – there is never a lack of things to do! Tools are supplied by MHS.
Position Availability
Work generally begins in March and continues into October with no set schedules. Position is flexible and allows volunteers to work at their own pace.

Volunteer Duties
MHS provides Monitors for wedding ceremonies in the Lighthouse and/or on the grounds. Monitors place grounds closure notices, guide non-invitees away from the private ceremonies, and provide general support.
Position Availability
Varies depending upon scheduled weddings; typically 2-hour assignments.

Volunteer Duties
Catalog MHS photos and artifacts. Maintain online catalog in PastPerfect software. Respond to requests for photos from outside MHS including collecting fees as appropriate.

Volunteer Duties
Maintain membership records, including both physical and email addresses. Record attendance at General Meetings. Prepare and distribute Welcome Packets to new members. Supervise membership renewals and report membership statistics to the MHS Board at least semi-annually.

Maintain MHS Web site. Maintain MHS Board Member and Committee email forwarders. On-call for simple troubleshooting problems in Gift Shop Clover System, etc.

Volunteer Duties
Trunk Treasures Keepers maintain a trunkful of historical artifacts shared with local schools. Keepers schedule sessions with individual classes at teachers’ requests. Then they display and explain the items to the students in hands on sessions.
